I mean, I did not know there was a system of points that calculated the maximum that a flat can cost. I´m going to Argentina the next month and I have just checked that they have the same law. So, as a tourist, you are not unprotected because you know that they will not charge you a ridiculous amount that a local would never pay. You have to consult the chart of the estimated costs and then follow that. I know a campany that can rent me an buenos aires apartment, and I think thay have the chart on their website, so that you don´t even have to Google it. I trust them for sure!Carlahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03834947660835630077noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7336356048668824711.post-9380015810722433782011-02-05T09:36:41.372+01:002011-02-05T09:36:41.372+01:00Great comments Joni! People here (on both the landlord and tenant sides) can get hosed, in different ways.

If you saw the previous post I mentioned the significant risk that landlords take by renting; it sounds like it's pretty risky in Canada too.

Anyway, I'm off to make money in a less risky fashion - I send e-mails posing as a Nigerian prince with a fantastic offer that just needs some short-term cash.Jeffhttp://www.funnekotter.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7336356048668824711.post-30868454526123754512011-02-04T14:59:29.508+01:002011-02-04T14:59:29.508+01:00Sorry Jeff, but reading this actually started maki...Sorry Jeff, but reading this actually started making me angry. I realize from the tenant's perspective this sounds fantastic, but try to look at it from the Landlord's perspective. These laws are not that much different from our laws in Canada and it makes owning rental property very unappealing. Unfortunately, there are a lot (a LOT!) of tenants who do not respect their Landlords, or their property, and who even take advantage of these laws. I have been in several situations where tenants have damaged my property and/or not paid rent and I can't get them out. In one circumstance my tenant was kicked out of the apartment he was renting from me and the property was taken over by drug dealers and we couldn't get them out because of such laws. I've taken tenants to court after they haven't paid rent for several months. I won. And still, I will NEVER see those many thousands of dollars that I had to pay before I could have the tenant removed. In my eyes, this is in line with theft and should be treated as such.

So, if you don't make it appealing for people to want to own rental property, you soon won't have any affordable rentals... you'll have condos. Expensive ones.

Sorry for venting on you. It's a touchy subject with me.Joninoreply@blogger.com
